The California Quarterly, a quarterly journal devoted to poetry, is sponsored by the California State Poetry Society, a non-profit organization founded over thirty years ago. It is dedicated to the adventure of poetry and its dissemination. Although located in California, its members and contributors are from all over the U.S. and abroad. All those interested in poetry are welcome to join. CSPS, the official state poetry society, is affiliated with the National Federation of Poetry Societies, providing members with news of nationwide contests and conferences.

The mailings of the California Quarterly include news of publishing and contest opportunities, a newsletter, and the Poetry Letter, a second venue open to submissions. Among other achievements, the CSPS started Poetry in the School, encouraging young people to express themselves in the art of poetry. This tradition is now continued in student contests whose statewide winners are subsequently entered in national competition.
